FOREWORD BY THE MANAGEMENT

The Kronospan organization is one of the world’s leading companies in the wood-based materials industry. The family-owned company was founded in 1897 in Lungötz, Austria, with just one sawmill. In the meantime, the company produces and sells products such as wood-based materials (OSB, particleboard, MDF) and their further processing into coated boards, laminates, compact boards, flooring, as well as the production of varnishes and glues at more than 40 locations worldwide.

Wald- und Grundbesitz GmbH is a company in the Kronospan organization and has been involved in the management of its own forests in the state of Brandenburg since 2003.

At that time, the state of Brandenburg sold a majority of its former military training areas owned by the Brandenburgische Bodengesellschaft (BBG). At the sites

Wünsdorf (Möggelinsee forest) with 3,981.39 ha
Jüterbog (Heidehof forest) with 1,538.20 ha
Byhlen (Forst 3 Grenzen (“3 borders forest”)) with 1,838.73 ha

these forest properties were acquired by the Wald- und Grundbesitz GmbH.

The intention behind purchasing these forest properties was primarily the desire to draw attention to the natural treasures that can develop from this land ravaged by centuries of military use. A peaceful use of former military training grounds is both a huge challenge and an opportunity.

For Kronospan, as the world’s leading manufacturer of wood-based materials, “wood” is not only an economically valuable commodity. The company is committed to the sustainable use of forests in harmony with nature. For this reason, Kronospan has committed itself to recognizing the FSC© guidelines and to practicing sustainable forestry according to these guidelines and principles. Extensive audits of compliance with the FSC© standards have shown that responsible forest management is in place. In the sub-areas of nature conservation and FFH areas, it is ensured that wilderness can also develop.

All living creatures live in a wide range of different ways from and with the forest. Nature conservation is not a luxury, it is an existential necessity. Kronospan is committed to protecting, developing and preserving the last natural oases at great expense.
