PEFC
Sustainable forest management in Germany is carried out in a way that maintains the forests’ biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and their ability to fulfil important ecological, economic and social functions at a local and national level now and in the future and does no harm to other ecosystems (definition of the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe).
Wald und Grundbesitz GmbH has dedicated itself to this management concept with three forest management units
- Möggelinsee
- "Three borders"
- Heidehof
since 2003. The employees of Wald- und Grundbesitz GmbH, its contractors and all of its external partners are obliged to adhere to a set of rules consisting of the following criteria that were resolved upon at the Ministerial Conference in Helsinki in 1993:
Responsibilities of the forest owners/scope/legal and other requirements
Legal and other requirements with which the forest owner is obliged to comply shall be observed.
1. Forest resources
The maintenance and appropriate enhancement of the forest resources and their contribution to global carbon cycles.
2. Health and vitality of the forest
The maintenance of the health and vitality of forest ecosystems.
3. Productive function of the forests
The maintenance and promotion of the forests’ productive function (wood and non-wood products)
4. Biodiversity in forest ecosystems
The maintenance, conservation and appropriate improvement of the biodiversity in forest ecosystems
5. Protective function of the forests
The maintenance and appropriate enhancement of the protective functions in forest management (notably soil and water)
6. Socio-economic functions of the forests
The maintenance of other socio-economic functions and conditions
